Recently I discovered that the pupil diameter signal can contain artificial "jumps" which are well above the noise level. I guess that these "jumps" are caused by adaptive processes in the camera (automatic exposure control) and/or the eyetracking algorithm (adaptive threshold for pupil edge detection). The amplitude of the jumps seems to be very similar in one recording but can be different across recordings (different subjects, different conditions). The amplitude of these "jumps", I guess, depends on different individual pupil-to-iris contrasts and different levels of focus (also depending on glasses vs. contact lenses vs. no correction, even at the same eye-to-camera distance).
Obviously, having the exposure and threshold controlled adaptively is a good thing, but I wonder if we could have a "tracker" attribute in the API which allows us to freeze/unfreeze the currently used exposure level and threshold in order to get an artifact-free pupil diameter signal when this signal is of particular interest.

.
Pupil diameter of one eye over time. X:500ms/div, Y:2.5pix/div (where "pix" is the unit of "psize" as returned by the TET API).
Statistics: Posted by skataqx7711 — 25 Nov 2016, 12:16

Thx for the feedback Chris. Would you mind posting this as an issue on the GitHub repo in question? Maybe with a link to this thread? Then I'll see to it that someone looks at this asap.
Statistics: Posted by skataAnders — 24 Nov 2016, 10:23

I also tried to run the sample code downloaded straight from github.

The calibration program can run the calibration steps (the moving dot) like the eyetribe UI, but once it's done calibrating it doesn't exit the calibration overlay and if I press esc to exit then a message pops up saying calibration failed. the graphical display which is supposed to show whether the eye tracker always displays the red slash even though the eyetribe UI can detect my eyes. and The mouse control button doesn't do anything even though it works through eyetribe UI. The only thing that seems to work is the "Calibration Quality" displays the same as what eyetribe UI reports.

Scroll pulls up the image which I can navigate with my mouse. But again if it's supposed to respond to my eyes I'm not seeing it.

I've uploaded the complied program here. Does it run on your side?

The only thing I did was download the code from the site and compile it.
Statistics: Posted by skatachris.striemer@gmail.com — 24 Nov 2016, 02:23

Hi, I'm trying out the code samples provided on the Dev page and can't seem to get it working.

As far as I can tell, the OnGazeUpdate function never runs. I assumed there was something in IGazeListener that called OnGazeUpdate whenever the tracker had an update available. Should I add it to a delegate manually?

Git repository of project
Statistics: Posted by skatachris.striemer@gmail.com — 23 Nov 2016, 14:30

Hello! I am very interested to know how this keyboard function works. I would like to map only a few keys at a time. For example:
If the person is fixes the gaze to the right corner of the screen then the right mouse or key button takes action. The same happens if the person gazes to the left then the left arrow key will be clicked. Could this be done with the program?
Statistics: Posted by skatajuanvic5185@hotmail.com — 23 Nov 2016, 07:53

Hi,

My project which uses EyeTribe, the users are supposed to look at an image for a long amount of time. There seems to be a calibration drift after a minute or two of looking. I was wondering if there are ways to fix this?
Any hints and tips would be appreciated.

Thanks
Statistics: Posted by skatapbawa1509@gmail.com — 22 Nov 2016, 15:48

I was trying to draw the fixations on the image with a "X" to see the accuracy and the jitter but i was wondering how can I convert the gaze coordinates into the coordinates that java uses to draw? Or am I mistaken and they both are essentially the same?
I am trying something like
g.drawString("x", 409, 74);

The EyeTribe API gives you screen coordinates in pixels. This is explained in detail in the API. Sounds like you are having trouble using the Java graphics system. You have not shared what Java libraries you are using, so I can't give you any package specific advice. Note that Java offers several presentation layers.

I would advice you to write a test program that draws lines or points in areas defined by hardcoded coordinates in your code. Once that works, then try to incorporate gaze coordinates. You could also start by writing a program that draws using the mouse and then add gaze coordinates afterwards.
Statistics: Posted by skataAnders — 07 Nov 2016, 10:13

Could you explain how do you go about converting the rawCoordinates that gazeData provides into the coordinates that java uses to draw?
Statistics: Posted by skatapbawa1509@gmail.com — 06 Nov 2016, 14:30
