connected but not working

I had this problem many times with my first tracker.
(Check my user name for past posts).
A replacement almost completely fixed it, but the error occurred in my 2nd tracker 1-2 times.
I had to try switching cables and ports.
I couldn't narrow it down to which part was the problem.
It's mostly fine now.
I just think there were some USB connector problems in their very early batches.
I would just get the Eye Tribe Tracker Pro, which I'm doing.
I think it's very close to shipping.
There'll probably be a large advancement in tracking accuracy, and maybe an increase in hardware reliability and/or experience.
Statistics: Posted by skataJeffKang — 02 Sep 2016, 18:11

We have one of your older eye trackers (30/60) and have used it collect preliminary data for an upcoming grant. When it was working -- it was great!

Unfortunately (and recently), the eye tracker stopped working. When plugging it into my USB 3.0 drive, the message on terminal varies from incorrect firmware, to not connected to a proper USB 3.0 port, to the device is connected but not working. The change in error message is unsystematic, but I believe it is caused by some sort of hardware/connection problem. I'm not a hardware engineer though.

Once I somehow managed to get it working after reconnecting it ~20 times, but the tracker failed to start during the (previously working) experiment, which is a researcher's nightmare.

I've attempted (for the last month) contacting info@theeyetribe re: this issue but it seems that they are really busy.

Please guide me through the next steps in solving this problem. I really enjoyed using the product and hope to start using it again soon.

Best,
X

Macbook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013). Hello all,

I have had it working, but I don't use it because of unacceptable inaccuracy (have been in communication with EyeTribe tech support about that). But it was at least connecting, red lights on the IR camera and driving the mouse pointer etc. Now there are no red lights, nothing.

But now, just when I finally decided to try coding something using the SDK, I suddenly can't get it going, no matter what I do.

My Mac can definitely see the IR camera, as it shows up in System Information:
USB 3.0 Hi-Speed Bus
TheEyeTribe
(This disappears if I unplug it.)

I've tried:
• Restarting the server (many times).
• Unplugging and replugging the IR camera.
• Brand new cable, as supplied by EyeTribe.
• Different USB3 socket.
• Fresh, clean install of EyeTribe software, after re-downloading it.
• AnotherEyeTribe IR camera (I have three, because of trying to troubleshoot the inaccuracy issue).
• Running Windows 8.1 under VMWare and doing a fresh install of EyeTribe software there.
• Rebooting my Mac.
• Unplugging everything else (except my keyboard) from USB (I have a big old classic Mac Pro (that's Mac Pro, not MacBook Pro) with a pretty hefty power supply, so power shouldn't be an issue; it certainly never was before).

... and I'm out of ideas. Is there anything else I can try (short of buying a new Mac)?

The log:
╭─lachlan@Lachlans-Mac-Pro.local ~/eyetribe/logs
╰─➤ cat 20160726032623_4432164134512455416.log
2016-07-26 03:26:23.762|4432164134512455416|I|Creating new log file
2016-07-26 03:26:23.762|4432164134512455416|I|Initializing environment
2016-07-26 03:26:23.763|4432164134512455416|I|OS X version 10.10.5
2016-07-26 03:26:23.763|4432164134512455416|I|Detecting primary screen
2016-07-26 03:26:23.791|4432164134512455416|I|Initializing config system
2016-07-26 03:26:23.792|4432164134512455416|I|TCP port: 6555
2016-07-26 03:26:23.792|4432164134512455416|I|Connections: local only
2016-07-26 03:26:23.792|4432164134512455416|I|Framerate: 30
2016-07-26 03:26:23.792|4432164134512455416|I|Initializing the Eye Tribe Server (v0.9.77)
2016-07-26 03:26:23.795|4432164134512455416|I|Initializing network
2016-07-26 03:26:23.796|4432164134512455416|I|Initializing dispatcher
2016-07-26 03:26:23.796|4432164134512455416|I|Initializing Network
2016-07-26 03:26:23.796|4432164134512455416|I|Setting network connection port
2016-07-26 03:26:23.796|4432164134512455416|I|Setting max network connections
2016-07-26 03:26:23.796|4432164134512455416|I|Starting Network
2016-07-26 03:26:23.796|4432164134512455416|I|Checking for running instances
2016-07-26 03:26:23.797|4432164134512455416|I|Creating Tracker Manager
2016-07-26 03:26:23.798|4432164134512455416|I|Creating Camera Manager
2016-07-26 03:26:23.904|4432164134512455416|I|Starting Device Monitor
2016-07-26 03:26:24.190|10447786930545275607|I|Video capturing device Found: TheEyeTribe
2016-07-26 03:26:24.190|10447786930545275607|I|Registering the device
2016-07-26 03:26:24.190|10447786930545275607|I|Device registered
2016-07-26 03:26:24.190|10447786930545275607|I|Video capturing device Found: Display iSight
2016-07-26 03:26:24.190|10447786930545275607|I|Ignoring the device
2016-07-26 03:26:24.191|10447786930545275607|I|Validating camera device
2016-07-26 03:26:24.191|10447786930545275607|I|Initializing tracker device
2016-07-26 03:26:24.219|10447786930545275607|E|Could not initialize The Eye Tribe Tracker
2016-07-26 03:26:24.219|10447786930545275607|E|The tracker device has been connected but is not working
2016-07-26 03:26:24.909|4432164134512455416|I|Creating Detection Manager
2016-07-26 03:26:24.932|4432164134512455416|I|Creating Calibration Manager
2016-07-26 03:26:24.936|4432164134512455416|I|Creating AutoExposureEstimator
2016-07-26 03:26:24.942|4432164134512455416|I|Default calibration profile loaded!
2016-07-26 03:26:24.943|4432164134512455416|I|Validating number of camera devices
2016-07-26 03:26:24.943|4432164134512455416|I|Validating config chosen device
2016-07-26 03:26:26.806|7817079941205802952|I|New connection detected [934905602048]
2016-07-26 03:26:26.915|7817079941205802952|E|Could not start tracker
2016-07-26 03:26:26.915|7817079941205802952|I|Creating new connection [934905602048]
2016-07-26 03:26:39.952|10447786930545275607|W|The Eye Tribe Tracker has been disconnected, waiting for connection
2016-07-26 03:28:05.118|7817079941205802952|I|New connection detected [939200569344]
2016-07-26 03:28:05.118|7817079941205802952|E|Could not start tracker
2016-07-26 03:28:05.118|7817079941205802952|I|Creating new connection [939200569344]
Statistics: Posted by skatagairlochan@mac.com — 25 Jul 2016, 22:12

I've checked with the guy who wrote the routine and he says it will use the temp directory if the users home cannot be found.

The other option is to start the server with argument: --framerate=60
Statistics: Posted by skataMartin — 24 May 2016, 13:51

Hi Martin,

I looked there and I couldn't see it on either of the macs I've installed the Eyetribe on. I've also tried searching for the file to make sure it hasn't accidentally been put somewhere else. Is it possible to create/download this file?

Cheers,
Emma
Statistics: Posted by skataemma.e.m.stewart@gmail.com — 22 May 2016, 04:19

Hi All,

I'm using the Eyetribe on MacOS, and I was wondering how to change the sample rate from 30Hz to 60Hz? I've only been able to find advice on how to do this on windows, and as far as I can tell I don't have any config file for the Eyetribe on my mac.

Cheers,
Emma
Statistics: Posted by skataemma.e.m.stewart@gmail.com — 20 May 2016, 08:12

Hi Ozge,

There's no webserver built in so pointing your browser to the port will not work.

You will have to connect to the TCP/IP socket to send/receive the JSON messages.

For convenience we have released a number open source SDKs on Github, including one for ObjectiveC.
Statistics: Posted by skataMartin — 09 Mar 2016, 17:35

Hi guys,

I'm using the Eyetribe on a Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

I'm trying to view the data on the eyetribe local server by accessing it via http://localhost:6555 in a browser. However, Safari says it failed '...because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection'. Chrome says 'No data received'.

The EyeTribe UI seems to be working fine, and my console says the server is set up. Is there any reason why I can't see it in the browser?

Apologise if this is an obvious question, thanks in advance!
Statistics: Posted by skataozge@northwestern.edu — 08 Mar 2016, 14:10

Will check with support if we've had similar cases. Unfortunately not enough information to diagnose. I've seen a couple of instances where it's reported as a USB 2.0 device but here it doesn't seem to be picked up at all. Is there another Mac around that you could try with?
Statistics: Posted by skataMartin — 07 Jan 2016, 03:31
