There is a little known API for iOS that does allow mouse control (with a MFi device) - I wonder if this would be theoretically possible to then use an eyegaze system on iOS ?? Watch this video for a demo http://youtu.be/BK-zgL-3fkg

Hello Will,

Have you made any progress in this direction? I'm a Mac user in desperate need of gaze control, and the only programming I've ever done is in C and a very basic level, so I don't fancy my chances of writing such software for myself, though I may have to try if there is no help available elsewhere.

Hi

Right now there is no official native Python SDK available but several open source projects available on Github. For example, PyTribe and PEyetribe.

The official alternatives are C#, Java, C++ and ObjectiveC.

I have read the Eyetribe API and Eyetribe docs, I am confused on how the intersection of using JSON for Eyetribe communication and the connection of the Eyetribe server via JAVA/PYTHON.

Also, if you use Python for Eyetribe, you're not interfacing with the Eyetribe with the developer packages ( like TETJavaClient.jar for JAVA ) but you use the associated PyGaze package, right ??

Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks Jeff. Well spotted! You can configure a few things about a fixation in OptiKey - how long a user must fixate on a key before a selection begins (the lock-on time), how long it takes to complete, and how long a partial selection will hang around if your attention moves away (the time to live).

I am thinking about adding more settings to control the behaviour of the progress animation - Martin (and the COGAIN book) suggest a shrinking target to draw the user's eyes towards the centre of the key. I might add settings to control the "initial size" and "final size" of the animation.

I'm also interested in adding an EEG selection trigger, as per the 'Brainwriter' by Not Impossible Labs.

OptiKey is an assistive on-screen keyboard which runs on Windows. It is designed to be used with a low cost eye-tracking device (including TheEyeTribe) to bring keyboard control, mouse control and speech to people with motor and speech limitations, such as people living with ALS / MND. It works out of the box once you have your eye-tracking device installed and allows selections to be made using dwell selection, as well as physical buttons and assistive devices. If you do not have an eye tracking device you can use OptiKey with a mouse.

OptiKey was written to challenge the outrageously expensive, unreliable and difficult to use AAC (alternative and augmentative communication) products on the market. It is, therefore, fully open-source and free. Forever.

Note for anyone else trying it:
I think that the eye tribe server has to be on first before the browser is open.
When I first tried Eyebrowse, I thought that it started the server automatically.
Even if it didn't open the server, I thought that you could open the server after the browser was open, but it's the other way around to get it to launch.

Additional: maybe the green regions could stay with the window when you press F11 to go full screen.
Currently, the green regions don't move to adjust.

Maybe your software requires the mouse cursor to STOP when it's over the control? The cursor driven by TheEyeTribe quivers.
