Cheap chin/forehead rest

Postby lauranynkevanderlaan » 22 Apr 2015, 12:02

Hello all,
Thank you for developing this wonderful eye-tracker. To optimize the quality of the data by removing head movements, I would like to use a chin/forehead rest. However, they appear to be extremely expensive (300-600 euros). Does anyone happen to know a supplier that asks lower prices for their chin rests? Or otherwise, does anybody have a guide on building your own?
Looking forward to hearing your suggestions!
Best,
Nynke

hello!

I used the following natural but effective way (quit using it because I dont need too precise results)

Place a chin on the palm, while the elbow is on the table

One hand looks enough (and also allows to use mouse), two hands totally fix the patient's head, no need for anesthesia

it may sounds like a joke, but it's not - try this position your own

and cheap

I think that's an interesting topic you bring up there. Unfortunately, I don't have any manufacturer or model names for you, but will follow this topic in case anyone else does.

Meanwhile, it should be possible to come up with a DIY solution. I'm thinking about a cheap wooden frame, fixed to the table using screw clamps. For the chin rest, one could use the top part of a PET bottle, potentially cushioned with a tiny pillow, a small bag of packaging material, etc. For the forehead rest a small plastic strip might to the job. I don't have any CAD software at my disposal, is the description more or less clear?
