EyeTribe Hacks - 2 Temperature

Postby Memo » 20 Apr 2015, 09:02

Welcome to the second report of this series. This time we will find if there is a heat problem at EyeTribe case design. As you know the frame of the case is a kind of metal, probably aluminum. Aluminum is one of the best metal for heat transferring in the electronic.

Image
Room Temperature before start: 23.2 °C

Image
EyeTribe Case Frame Temperature at start: 20.7 °C

Image
EyeTribe Case Frame Temperature running after 6 minutes: 35.5 °C

Image
EyeTribe Case Frame Temperature running after 10 minutes: 38.7 °C

Image
EyeTribe Case Frame Temperature running after 15 minutes: 39.7 °C

Image
EyeTribe Case Frame Temperature running after 30 minutes: 41.1 °C

Image
EyeTribe Case Frame Temperature running after 1 hour: 41.6 °C

Image
Room Temperature at finish: 24.4 °C

Room Temperature difference = 24.4 °C - 23.2 °C = +1.2 °C

Important Information Guide of the Eye Tribe Tracker Says;
Operating The Eye Tribe Tracker outside these ranges may effect performance:
Operating tempererature: 32° to 113° F (0° to 45° C)
Storage temperature: 14° to 122° F (-10° to 50° C)

Result: EyeTribe has a well heat transfer design and stays stable around 41.6 °C (at the room temperature 24.4. °C) . It seems that there is no need to add an extra cooling subsystem. Good case heat transfer design, congratulations.

Next: EyeTribe Hacks 3 - Effective working distance in various light conditions including the sun (this may take time since we are in the spring and there is no heavy direct sunlight. Community members contribution from where located in sunny places are welcome  )
