Is it possible to only calibrate and track a single eye?

Hi Anthony,

Not possible with current version. The software will track only one eye if the other is occluded but attempt to relocate the other as is provides a more stable and accurate result.

What scenario would you like to track a single eye for?

At times, we have worked with subjects where only a single eye is functioning normally and it requires us to only calibrate/track off a single eye. It isn't universal across subjects but it is there...

Is single eye tracking something that could be incorporated in the future?

Hi, I'm also interested in this feature.

Ideally, I would like to be able to calibrate one eye while other is covered. After that the same process would be done for other eye. Once
calibrated, the system would calculate the gaze positions and angles for both eyes independently. This would enable research in eye movements disorders, like strabismus. It would also enable users with such conditions to use the gaze interaction more effectively, because they would be able to use the system with the dominant eye only (deviating eye would be ignored).

Is there any chance this feature will be out? If it's not high on your priority list (it's an edge case after all), I was thinking about some alternatives. For instance, I could develop the calibration routine myself. But then I would like to have access to head movement variables, so I can compensate for head movements. I posted relevant question here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=172

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi puerto,

In your case, the changes in our algorithms would require a considerable effort and involve radical modifications to the architecture. Right now there can only be one calibration at any given point, and you would need two different calibrations, one for each eye. It's an edge case that does not have a trivial solution, hence we would probably not solve it in the near future. It is also difficult to provide the information you would need to implement your own calibration, since that would require exposing some of our core IP.

Some of my ALS patients can not use both eyes simultaneously. Therefore they can not calibrate their eyes with eyetribe.
Is it possible to calibrate monocular tracking with eyetribe in near future ?

I am also interested in monocular eye tracking. I am working on vision testing that requires isolating an eye to test for certain variables independently of the other eye. Ideally I would like to place a patch over the eye, but if that will interfere with calibration then perhaps there is another solution, such as wearing glasses that have a filter which would allow IR light to pass through thereby making the eye visible to the tracker, but prevent the participant from seeing through the filter.
